4net, step by step

Guides for Android and iOS: subscription import, connections and provider settings. The steps below describe Android; iPhone and iPad have a dedicated guide.

4net is a free client. It does not include free servers or sell subscriptions. Use access supplied by your chosen provider.

First connection · Android

  1. Install 4net from Google Play on Android 10 or later.
  2. Tap +, choose that you have a key, paste your compatible subscription link and confirm import.
  3. Select a server in its subscription group or select Smart Connection.
  4. Tap Connect and approve the Android VPN permission. The connection control remains visible while the server list scrolls.

Everyday controls

Subscriptions

Import compatible HTTPS subscriptions, keep several providers as separate groups and display their original server names.

Manual selection

Tap a server to select it. When disconnected, double-tap the selected server to connect. During a connection, selecting another server requests a reconnect.

Smart Connection

An optional entry in the server list. Uses availability checks and connection history to choose a server. Russian servers remain available manually and are excluded from Smart.

Latency checks

TCP is the default. Choose a real HTTPS request through a node in Settings. Results are saved; the Home check button starts the selected test immediately.

Routing

Choose the recommended routing or all traffic through VPN in Settings. App exclusions are a separate Android setting.

Themes and provider identity

Choose light or dark appearance. Compatible subscriptions can supply a logo, colors, announcements and a support link.

Subscription compatibility

4net supports compatible VLESS and Hysteria 2 profiles, including supported nodes from Remnawave JSON responses. JSON compatibility depends on its contents: importing profiles does not promise every custom function of another client. If some nodes are unsupported, ask your provider for a compatible format.

Subscription updates and latency

Manual refresh remains available. With automatic refresh enabled, 4net follows the provider’s profile-update-interval header (1–168 hours; default 1 hour) and runs latency checks after a successful update. Android may defer background work.

TCP measures port reachability, not the entire VPN session. HTTPS measures a test request through the profile to https://max.ru/. UDP profiles use the real connection check. A timeout for one server does not mean the whole subscription is unavailable.

Troubleshooting

Subscription does not update

Check ordinary internet access, the complete link and subscription expiry. A provider’s device limit may also block import. Contact the provider about access or HWID limits; do not post the secret URL in a public chat.

The VPN stops after a while

Android can stop apps because of battery restrictions. Check background activity restrictions for 4net, especially on MIUI/HyperOS. Removing the app from Recents should not be confused with Force stop: a forced stop can terminate VPN.
